Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch Screen Replacement Repair How To

This is a guide on how to do a touch screen LCD replacement repair on a Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch. I will include in this article the process I have found to fix my screens damage. I am also including a video I found on youtube on how to perform this repair from 365laptoprepair.com.

I have had my U310 for a little while and it has been working great. Unfortunately there was an accident involving the laptop. The screen no longer worked, so I started investigating ways to fix it.

After a bit of searching I found guides to replace the LCD on the U310, but to my surprise they were all for the non-touch version! I didn't even know this laptop came in a non-touch version, you learn something new every day!
After a bit more in-depth searching I found the tutorial video I mentioned in the first paragraph. The guys over at 365laptoprepair.com had created an awesome video on how to take apart the laptop and it was for the U310 Touch!

Unfortunately I found out the U310 touch cannot be repaired as cheaply as the non-touch version. Since the touch screen (I found out was called the digitizer) is very sturdily attached to the back casing and the LCD is factory attached to the touch screen, the way to fix a broken LCD or touch screen is to replace the entire screen assembly. The entire screen assembly contains the back casing, LCD/Touchscreen/LCD cable webcam and hinges.

I was not too happy to replace the entire screen, but that is the price for being so careless with my laptop! Luckily, I was able to purchase the LCD screen assembly part from the guys at 365laptoprepair.com. They also had a screen repair service, but with their great tutorial video, I figured I would save myself some money and do the repair myself.

Now, the video not only includes how to remove the screen assembly, it also includes how to take apart the whole laptop. All the the steps in the video do not need to be done to disconnect and replace the screen.

Start the video and do all of the steps until the 1:16 mark. This includes removing the rubber feet from the bottom to reveal screws, then removing those screws, and then separating the bottom cover of the laptop. Then you disconnect the battery to prevent shorting anything out during the repair.

You can then skip to the 2:19 mark and disconnect the 3 screen cables as shown in the video. Then at 2:33 you disconnect the rectangular LCD screen connector as shown. Then at 2:45 you will disconnect the wifi wires from the wifi card.

After all that is done you can skip to 4:08 and free the screen wires of anything holding them down. Then at 4:28 there are 4 screws to remove from the screen hinges. With those screws removed, you should be able to gently open the laptop and separate the screen assembly from the laptop base.

Next is installing the new screen. I took the screen I bought from 365 Laptop Repair at the link above and continued to follow the video instructions. Screen installation starts at 6:11 and is pretty much the opposite of the disassembly instructions. Put the laptop base into place on the screen and bend the hinges down so the screw holes line up. Make sure the wires are on the inside of the laptop and routed correctly and not sticking out as shown in the video. Then replace the 4 hinge screws.

You can then skip to 9:28 and 10:16 for reconnecting the 4 screen cables and then to 11:23 for the reconnecting of the wifi wires. Next is reconnecting the battery at 13:45. After that replace the bottom cover, replace the screws and then the footpads starting at 14:06.

With that we are done! I finished my repair and now my laptop works good as new! I was quite happy that my repair went so smoothly, but really it was all thanks to the tutorial and the perfect touch screen replacement part from 365laptoprepair.com! It went so well I just had to write this post to help teach others how to do this repair and to try and get more exposure for the repair it as it wasn't very easy for me to find.
